New Delhi: Today i.e. 10th January is World Hindi Day. It is celebrated on the occasion of the anniversary of the first World Hindi Conference held in 1975. On this occasion, a program was organized in Suriname’s capital Paramaribo under the leadership of MoS MP Meenakshi Lekhi.

Hindi speakers from the country of Paramaribo participated in this program organized in Nicerie and presented Hindi essays and poems. On this occasion, the Union Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi shared her views with the speakers of Suriname through a video message. Along with this, Lekhi also distributed prizes to the winners of the competition organized.

Significantly, the First World Hindi Conference was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Since 1975, World Hindi Conference has been organized in various countries like India, Mauritius, United Kingdom, Trinidad and Tobago, United States of America. World Hindi Day was first celebrated on 10 January 2006.
