World Badminton Championships: PV Sindhu’s easy win, Lakshya and Srikanth move on

Huelva (Spain). Defending champion PV Sindhu started her campaign on a grand note at the World Badminton Championships with a 21-7, 21-9 win over Slovakia’s Martina Repiska on Tuesday. Rising player Lakshya Sen also defeated 15th seed Kenta Nashimoto of Japan 22-20, 15-21, 21-18 to enter the pre-quarterfinals. Kidambi Srikanth has also reached the pre-quarterfinals of men’s singles. India’s 12th seeded player defeated Li Shi Feng of China 15-21, 21-18, 21-17 in a match that lasted one hour and nine minutes.

In men’s doubles, Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Li Xie Huai and Yang Po Suan of Chinese Taipei 27-25, 21-15 in a match that lasted 43 minutes. World No. 7 Sindhu defeated her unseeded opponent in just 24 minutes. Sixth seed Sindhu, who last won the title in 2019, got off to a good start and quickly took a 4-1 lead.

Repiska tried to make a comeback by scoring two points but the Indian giant did not give her a chance to advance and took an 11-4 lead till the break. Even after this, he maintained his dominance and won the first game in just 10 minutes.

The same story was repeated in the second game as well. Sindhu took a 6-0 lead in just two minutes of play. With her dominant performance, she was ahead 11-1 till the break. He easily won this game and match after this. On the contrary, Sen had to struggle a lot to register a win but he was able to defeat the Japanese in the end in a match that lasted one hour and 22 minutes.

In mixed doubles, however, the Indian pair of Saurabh Sharma and Anushka Parikh were defeated by Malaysia’s Tan Qian Meng and Lai Pei Jing 21-8, 21-18 in straight games.
