Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Thursday that the basic network of 5G will be Indian. He said that India will move rapidly towards the next generation of technology with telecom equipment built in the country. The minister said that the testing platform (testbed) for 5G is ready. The government will soon approve the tests.
Lagged behind in 2G, 3G and 4G ..
Addressing the program of National Informatics Center Service Institute (NICSI), Prasad said, “We fell behind in 2G, 3G and 4G, but India will move faster in 5G through Indian 5G. We have set the stage for testing and we will allow it soon. The main network will be Indian. The Department of Telecom had earlier targeted to start testing of 5G in 2019 and next generation services in 2020.

However, it was delayed due to claims by the Ministry of Defense and Department of Space on some spectrum for 5G. According to the industry, more than 100 commercial 5G networks have been launched globally. Prasad said that 5G will be the technology to change and this will open up new avenues.

The minister said, “I urge all the private sector operators, including other operators, NICSI to understand the emerging modalities of 5G, adopt them and innovate.” 5G is not just communication technology, but it is a technology to change and this will open up new avenues. Prasad said that he wants to make India the top data economy.
