Digital Desk, London. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said a booster vaccine would be offered to everyone over the age of 18 by the end of January and that another lockdown is highly unlikely. At Tuesday’s Downing Street news briefing, the prime minister said the campaign for the booster program would be in age-order and that more than 1,500 community pharmacy sites in England would offer doses. The temporary vaccine centers will pop up like Christmas trees, Johnson said, adding some 400 military personnel and volunteers will also help with the campaign.

Eight more cases of infection from Omicron have been identified in England, bringing the total number of confirmed cases of B.1.1,529 in Britain to 22, reports Xinhua news agency. The UK HSA said it is working to provide scientists with information as soon as possible to prevent the spread of new variants and save lives. British Health Secretary Sajid Javid told the press conference that officials are looking to establish any links to South Africa in England’s new cases, but we have to be realistic.

Britain has recorded 39,716 new cases of COVID-19, according to official figures released on Tuesday, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 10,228,772. The country also reported 159 more coronavirus-related deaths. The total number of deaths due to coronavirus in the UK now stands at 144,969. These figures include only those who died within 28 days of the first positive test.

In the UK, more than 88 per cent of people aged 12 and over have received their first dose of the vaccine, and more than 80 per cent have taken both, according to new data. More than 31 percent have received a booster dose or a third dose of the anti-coronavirus vaccine.
