Indian shooters Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker failed to replicate their first-leg performance in the second leg of qualification for the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Tokyo Olympics here on Tuesday and eventually settled for seventh place. The Indian pair had topped the first stage of qualification with 582 points to make it to the second stage but Saurabh did not get enough support from Manu to end the team’s medal hopes.

Saurabh scored 194 (96 and 98) in the second leg but Manu could only score 186 (92 and 94). Thus the Indian pair finished seventh with a total score of 380. Saurabh had also made it to the finals in the men’s 10m air pistol after finishing on top of the qualification but still had to settle for seventh place. China’s Jiang Ranzhin and Wei Pang, who finished one point behind Saurabh and Manu in the first stage of qualification, and Vitalina Batsarashkina and Artem Chernosov of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) took the first two places with 387 and 386 points respectively in the second stage. . Now there will be a gold medal fight between them.

Ukraine’s Olina Kostiych and Oleh Omlechuk will play for the bronze medal between Serbia’s Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikech. Saurabh did well in the first stage of qualification as well. He scored a total of 296 marks with scores of 98, 100 and 98 while Manu scored 286 marks (97, 94 and 95). The top eight teams advanced to the next stage. Another Indian pair of Abhishek Verma and Yashaswini Singh Deswal crashed out in the first leg after finishing 17th with 564 points. Abhishek scored 283 (92, 94 and 97) while Yashaswini scored 281 (95, 95 and 91).
