Kolkata. India’s star archer Deepika Kumari on Monday admitted that she needs to avoid coming under pressure at the Olympic Games. Also said that in order to achieve good results in future, there is a need to look at the biggest platform of sports from a different perspective. Deepika, who won multiple medals at this year’s World Cup, was in good form and the 27-year-old was expected to win India’s first Olympic medal in archery at the Tokyo Olympics.
Deepika Kumari, however, lost in the quarterfinals of both individual and mixed events. Thus once again his campaign in the Olympics had a disappointing end. She entered the Olympics for the third time. Deepika Kumari said, ‘The pressure of those five rings, is dominating. Everyone is saying that we don’t have medals, we don’t have medals. We thought about it a thousand times over there and it dominated our mindset. It had a mental impact and affected our technique.
need to look from a different perspective
Deepika Kumari said, ‘The time has come for me to introspect my game and look at it from a different perspective. A lot of things are missing. In fact, we need to change our approach to the game. He said, ‘We have to look at all competitions in the same way. Be it the World Cup, the World Championship or the Olympics. But there (Olympics) we think a lot about medals. We don’t have to complicate things and enjoy the moment.
Don’t think much about other events
Deepika Kumari said, ‘A medal is the highest goal even in the World Cup or World Championship, but we never think about it continuously. But once we reach the Olympics, we can’t get away from the idea of winning a medal. We need to work on this. Deepika suffered a straight-sets defeat against 20-year-old Korea’s Aan San in the individual quarterfinals. Aan San, who won the individual gold, also looked under pressure against Deepika and managed only 26 points in the last two sets. However, Deepika performed extremely poorly and lost the match three times in a row with seven and one eight points.
