Legendary football player Diego Maradona’s watch, allegedly stolen from Dubai, was recovered from Assam’s Sivasagar district on Saturday. Police said that one person has been arrested in this case. He told that the accused person was working as a security guard in a company in Dubai. The company was protecting the belongings of the late Argentine footballer.

Maradona died on November 25 last year at the age of 60. Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said the accused was suspected of stealing the contents of the safe in which the valuable Hubbolt watch was also kept. He said the accused had returned to Assam in August after working for a few days in the company. He had taken leave on the pretext of his father being ill.

The official said that the Dubai Police informed India about the accused, following which the Assam Police swung into action. The accused was arrested from his residence at 4 am and the watch was recovered. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said international coordination was established between the police forces of the two countries in this ‘operation’ to recover the watch of the veteran Maradona. Further legal action is being taken against the accused, he added.
