Patna: In Bihar’s Khagaria district, a person’s account got Rs 5.5 lakh due to a bank mistake. He refused to return the money claiming that it was “sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi”. According to reports, Ranjit Das, a resident of Bakhtiyarpur village under Mansi police station area of Khagaria, refused to return the money he had received by mistake. Many times notices were given by the bank regarding withdrawal, but despite this, when the amount was not returned, the bank filed a case.
‘I spent all the money’
According to reports, Gramin Bank in Khagaria mistakenly sent money to the account of Ranjit Das, a native of Bakhtiyarpur village under Mansi police station area and later gave several notices to return it. But Das refused to return the amount saying that he had spent it. Ranjit Das said, ‘I was very happy when I got the money in March this year. I thought Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh in every bank account, of which this could be the first installment. I spent all the money. Now there is no money in my bank account.
‘Ranjit Das has been arrested’
Mansi station in-charge Deepak Kumar said, “On the complaint of the bank manager, we have arrested Ranjit Das, further investigation is on.” According to reports, the process of sending the arrested Ranjit Das to jail has also started. At the same time, bank officials say that money was mistakenly transferred to Ranjit’s account. He said, ‘Later on reconciliation, when it came to know about this, Ranjit was asked to return the money, but by then he had withdrawn all the money from the account. On being told repeatedly, he said that PM Modi has sent money, I will not return it. Due to his persistent refusal, we had to file a police complaint.
