Sentencing for child abuse murder extended | Penalty for child abuse murder extended – Bhaskar

Digital Desk, Seoul. South Korea’s Supreme Court has increased the maximum recommended sentence for child abuse convicts to 22-and-a-half years in prison, amid calls for harsher punishment for such heinous crimes. This information was given by the sources on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court sentencing commission held a meeting on Monday and increased the standard punishment for the offense with up to 4-8 years in prison from the current 4-7 years in prison, up to 15 years in prison and 10 years in prison, Yonhap news agency reported. Can be jailed for up to a year. Sources said the ceiling was raised in cases where the particular enhanced determinant outweighs the mitigating element by more than two factors.

The commission also introduced a norm of punishment ranging from 17 to 22 years for child abuse, murder, and more than 20 years or a minimum of life imprisonment in serious cases. It plans to hold a public hearing on the adjustment and finalize the decision in March. The move comes as several serious child abuse death cases have made headlines as recently as the alleged murder of an adopted child named Jung-in last year. This caused nationwide mourning and prompted calls for the death penalty for the child’s step-parents.
