Saudi Arabia took a strong lead over Australia and Japan in Asia Group B by registering a fifth win in six matches in the Football World Cup qualifiers after beating Vietnam 1-0 in Hanoi on Tuesday. The only goal of the match was scored by Saleh Al Sahri in the 31st minute. Saudi Arabia, who are challenging for their sixth World Cup appearance, have taken a six-point lead over Australia and seven points over Japan.

On Tuesday itself, Australia has to face China while Japan has to face Oman. The account for Vietnam’s points is not yet opened. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the World Cup to be held in Qatar in November 2022. A play-off will take place between the two third-placed teams and the winner of that match will play a team from another confederation.c
