Review: ‘Those who wish me dead’ how the director saves the worn-out story

Review: If the story is cliched, then there is little hope of any novelty in the film. The writers and directors, however, try to put in something that the audience will see and appreciate. It is the responsibility of the director more than the writer to maintain the interest of the audience in the film through good shots, good acting and good editing. ‘Does Who Wish Me Dead’ (Amazon Prime Video) is one such film that director Tyler Sheridan has not only saved from drowning with his skill but also made the viewers feel full of thrill in its action and thrill sequences. It’s fun to see Angelina Jolie after a long time.

Owen (Jack Weber) is a forensic accountant who works to unearth the black money of the mafia and politicians. Jack (Aidan Gillen) and Patrick (Nicholas Hoult) are hired killers who first kill Owen’s boss and want to kill Owen as well, so the police don’t have any evidence. Owen is on the run with his son Connor (Finn Little) on his way to his brother-in-law, Deputy Sheriff Ethan (Joan Bernthal), when Jack and Patrick attack his car. Before dying, he gives all the secrets to his son and drives him into the forest. Connor meets Hanna (Angelina Jolie), a forest fire extinguisher who not only saves him from the killers but also from the forest fires ignited by those killers. all’s well That ends well. How simple is the story? A 2014 film adaptation of his novel of the same name was written by Michael Courtois, with directors Tyler Sheridan and Charles Levitt.

The cinematography of the film is done by Ben Richardson. The forest scene and the forest fire scene are dominant. He has tried to bring grandeur in the film by keeping the close up shots short. The use of light in night scenes gives an unexpected effect. Editor Chad Galster, who has come to the movies from the world of TV series, has displayed real adventure in the film and the viewers do not realize but the film moves in a straight line with time. There is no filminess in ‘Does Who Wish Me Dead’, so many parts look like reality. Angelina’s minor role in acting also makes her the central character of the film. When a forest fire kills three young people and Angelina is unable to save them while doing her duty, her past reverses her present. Finn Little did a wonderful acting. His scenes with Angelina are very good.

Owen’s character in the film has not been done justice as well. It is not known in the whole film that against whom he has evidence. There is no one strong villain that is being fought against. Connor does not even feel sorry for his father’s death, but at the end of the film when he asks Angelina what his future holds, he becomes very touching. Angelina doesn’t want to make any commitments so doesn’t bother to adapt and it looks realistic. The film is worth watching. The setting of fire in the forest and its growth first slowly and then rapidly has been filmed very well. Due to the lack of any central story in the film, there may be some disappointment in watching the film, but seeing Angelina Jolie is also instructed to forget everything.
