According to the news agency Tass, while addressing the 13th BRICS summit chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video link, Putin said that the theme that India has chosen for the meeting and for the whole year is ‘Sustainability, Strengthening cooperation for solidarity and consensus’ which is quite relevant. “Indeed, this is the goal that the entire international community is striving to achieve, and the 5 BRICS members play an important and significant role in achieving this goal,” the Russian President said.

Putin said Russia is ready to continue cooperation with its allies in the BRICS grouping in all areas. “I hope that our work today will be fruitful and fruitful, and I would like to reiterate that Russia is ready to continue close cooperation with all BRICS members in all fields,” Putin said. The BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) countries organize the summit every year and preside over it in turn. India is the chair of BRICS for this year.

The summit was also attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. The summit this year comes at a time when BRICS is celebrating its 15th anniversary. This is the second time that Prime Minister Modi chaired the BRICS summit. Prior to this, he had presided over the Goa summit in 2016. China will take over as the chairman of BRICS next year and host the bloc’s 14th summit in 2022.
