Digital Desk, Islamabad. On the economic performance of the country, President of Pakistan Arif Alvi said that the country’s economy is moving in the right direction. Alvi said in a meeting with members of the business community here on Wednesday, the economic growth reflected the confidence of the business community in the economic policies of the current government, reported Xinhua news agency. Steps are being taken to further improve the business environment of the country by providing various incentives and facilities.
The President said, the business community has played an important role in the economic development of the country and several steps have been taken to facilitate them especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that the government is focusing on creating an optimal business environment and due to its efforts, Pakistan’s rank in the ease of doing business index has gone up from 136th to 108th position.
Alvi said that despite tough financial constraints, the Pakistani government has provided a 1.2 trillion PKR ($700 million) financial stimulus package to protect the business community and the underprivileged section of the society from the adverse effects of the pandemic. The President said that exports reached over $2500 million during the last financial year of 2020-2021 and tax collections exceeded the target set by the Federal Board of Revenue during the first two months. The current financial year shows that the economic condition of the country is improving.
