Oscar 2021: India’s ‘Bittu’ shortlisted in live action short film, story of 2 school friends

Los Angeles (IANS) There is a ray of hope even after the Indian film Jallikattu failed to make it to the Best Foreign Film category. India still has a chance to shine at the 93rd Academy Awards as India’s film Bittu shortlisted in the live action film category. Karisma Dev Dubey’s film Bittu is part of the 10-films list. The film has been produced by Ekta Kapoor, Guneet Monga and Tahira Kashyap under the Indian Woman Rising Initiative.

Now, members of the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch will see if the film should be removed from the nomination. The film is based on a true story and tells the story of 2 school friends. Other films shortlisted in this category include Da Yi, Feeling Through, The Human Voice, The Kixled Choir, The Letter Room, The Present, Two Distant Strangers and The Van and White Eye.

Urging to support the film, Tahira wrote, Bittu is in the top 10 for the 93rd Academy Awards! This is the first project of Indian Woman Rising and is very special. The final nominations for the Oscars will be announced on March 15. The prize ceremony will be held on 25 April.
