Indian women’s football team back on track, easily beat Bahrain

Phumnama. The Indian women’s football team defeated lower-ranked Bahrain 5-0 in an international friendly match. Pyari Khaka scored two goals in the 19th and 68th minutes. Apart from them, Sangeeta Basfour (13th), Indumati (34th) and Manisha (69th) scored other goals. Bahrain is ranked 85th in the FIFA rankings while the Indian team is ranked 57th.
Indian players are trying to improve their understanding of each other’s roles after arriving in Bahrain from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the second leg of their overseas tour ahead of the Asian Cup.

There was victory in one and defeat in the other on foreign tour
On the UAE tour, the team lost 0–1 to Tunisia after a 4–1 win over the United Arab Emirates. Head coach Thomas Dennerby believes that the mutual understanding with which the team is playing is giving players a better understanding of their role in different situations.

Dennerby said before the match that this mutual understanding was very helpful for the players to understand the individual game and roles. It also showed him how to co-operate in both offensive and defensive play. The Indian team had won the first match on the current foreign tour, while it had to face defeat in the second.
