India Nepal Relations: The Terai roads project has helped strengthen the road infrastructure in the Terai region of Nepal and fostered people-to-people relations between the border areas of the two countries.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding, the Government of Nepal identified ten priority roads to be built by the Government of India under a funding of 800 crore Nepalese rupees. These Terai roads are also called Hulaki Highway and it connects the major towns on the East-West Highway with the Indo-Nepal border, these 10 roads are located in the seven border districts of provinces 1, 2, and 5 of Nepal and Through this, one can easily travel to more than 284 wards, 149 villages, 18 village municipalities, 18 municipalities and 1 sub-metropolitan city.

The project has been implemented under ‘Government of India funding and Government of Nepal Implementation’. According to the press release “There are seven-meter carriageways on each road and two meters of shoulders on each side. Drainage in roads, in residential areas Footpaths with railings, road signage boards, road marking and other road furniture are included. Under the project, more than 652 bridges and a 111-kilometer drainage network along the route have also been constructed. “
The Terai roads project has helped strengthen the road infrastructure in the Terai region of Nepal and fostered people-to-people relations between the border areas of the two countries. These full-length roads also promote other major border infrastructure developed by India in Nepal such as integrated check posts at Birganj and Viratnagar and cross-border railway lines.
The bilateral relations between India and Nepal have seen another milestone in development cooperation between the two countries.
