Digital Desk, Colombo. Six people have died in Sri Lanka due to heavy rain and strong winds over the weekend. Strong winds caused flooding in many areas of the island nation. The Disaster Management Center (DMC) gave this information.
The DMC said that 13 districts have been affected by heavy rains, bringing 891 people to safer areas, Xinhua news agency reported. The DMC said that a landslide warning has also been issued in 10 districts, including some areas of the capital Colombo.
The Meteorological Department said that more rain is likely in many areas of the country in the coming days and urged people to remain alert as it may cause flooding in low-lying areas. The Sri Lankan Navy said it has deployed relief teams to flood-affected areas for search and rescue operations in case of a meteorological disaster.
