The debate has sprung up ever since Ravindra Jadeja took on Yuzvendra Chahal’s ground as a concussion substitute in the first T20 match against Australia
Taylor, a former member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) cricket committee, told the ‘Sydney Morning Herald’ that the concession rule is to protect the player. He said that if it is misused then it may be that its fate will be like the ‘runner’ rule.
The runner rule was abolished because it was being misused. It is up to the players to implement the concession rules properly and responsibly. The second match of the series will be played on this ground on Sunday.
Questions raised on Chahal’s submission
- Australian coach Justin Langer expressed his displeasure at Chahal’s concession on this to match referee David Boon before the start of the Australian innings in the first T20 match. Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques also questioned that Jadeja was an all-rounder and had batting. Chahal is a bowler. Substitute should also be like Jadeja.
