National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah on Thursday demanded re-election for the Garura District Development Council (DDC) and Jammu’s Bandipora DDC in view of allegations of occupation and rigging of the booth. The sixth phase of the voting was held on 13 December. In a letter to State Election Commission Commissioner KK Sharma, Abdullah expressed concern over alleged booth grabbing and fake voting incidents during the recent DDC voting in Garura-Bandipora.
He wrote in the letter, “Very sad incidents have come to my notice. In many places, the actual voters and those supporting the Guptkar coalition manifesto (PAGD) candidates were not allowed to vote. Apart from this, there were incidents of booth capturing in Garura-Bandipora on 13 December and incidents of unwanted interference in several areas where voting took place on 16 December. In Chopagam, Shopian, voters were forcibly prevented from voting. ”Gopkar coalition manifesto president Abdullah demanded re-election in these areas for a fair and just contest.
