Digital Desk, Dhaka. Bangladesh has received 5 million more doses of the Kovid-19 vaccine made by China’s pharmaceutical Sinopharm Group. Health ministry spokesman Maidul Islam Prodhan told reporters that a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying Chinese vaccine doses landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday.
Abu Zahir, chief health coordinator of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, received the consignment at the airport, Xinhua news agency reported. 5.4 million doses of Sinopharm vaccine had reached Dhaka on 11 September.
Bangladesh launched the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in January to contain the nationwide pandemic. The Bangladeshi government later stopped giving the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine after India banned vaccine exports. In June, vaccination campaigns were resumed in some parts of the country with the Sinopharm vaccine. Bangladesh has so far received about 25 million Sinopharm vaccine doses.
