New Delhi. Two veteran leaders of the state have come face to face with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) increasing the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Punjab. Once again this fight is of Congress vs ‘Congress’. On one hand, the Chief Minister of the state Charanjit Singh Channi is opposing the decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs, while on the other hand, former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has openly supported it.
In fact, after the new decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs, BSF has got many officers like search, arrest in the area up to 50 km from the border of the country in West Bengal, Punjab and Assam. In such a situation, there has been a political ruckus in Punjab on increasing the jurisdiction of BSF on the Pakistan border to 50 km. This is being seen as diluting the jurisdiction of the state police.
CM Channi protested
Expressing opposition to this decision, the Chief Minister of Punjab has tweeted – I oppose this unilateral decision of the Central Government, under which additional powers have been given to BSF within 50 km of the International Border. This is a direct attack on federalism. I appeal to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to immediately withdraw this illogical decision.
Manish Tewari, Sukhjinder Singh also expressed their opposition
Apart from this, Congress MP Manish Tewari has said that due to this decision, half of Punjab will go under the jurisdiction of Border Security Force. Along with this, the Deputy CM of the state Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has also criticized the new decision.
Captain Amarinder openly supported
But in the midst of all this, former Chief Minister of the state Captain Amarinder has appreciated this decision. He has said that central security forces should not be made a part of politics. He has said – our soldiers are getting martyred in Kashmir. We are seeing that Pakistan-backed terrorist organizations are sending arms and drugs in large quantities to Punjab. In such a situation, the increased presence and strength of BSF will make us stronger.
