Police say Shahid Zahri was killed while driving in his vehicle in Hub City, about 20 km (12 miles) west of Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, on Sunday evening. Yunus Raza, a senior police officer, said that the explosion appears to have been caused by a magnetic device installed under the driving seat of Zahri. It apparently cracked overhead and destroyed the seat.

Zahri, who covered Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, was a reporter for the local television news channel, Metro 1. Late on Sunday, the BLA armed group claimed responsibility for the attack, accusing Zahri of working with Pakistan’s security forces in a statement emailed to journalists. As per Dawn report, 35-year-old Shahid Jahri, who was associated with Metro 1 News, was traveling in a car in the hub when he was attacked with a homemade grenade. The critically injured Zahri and another injured fellow were initially taken to Hub Civil Hospital and later to Dr Ruth Fau Civil Hospital Karachi, where Zahri was declared brought dead. CCTV footage of the incident, as seen by, showed the explosion occurred as he took a U-turn on a busy road on the side of the road near Jehri’s moving car. The nature of the bomb could not be immediately confirmed.
