Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka entered the quarter-finals of the women’s singles of the Australian Open tennis tournament by winning matches in Melbourne in a three-set match on Sunday. Serena defeated seventh seed Aryana Sabalenka 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to retain her hopes of a record 24th Grand Slam title. He had previously won the last Grand Slam tournament at the Australian Open in 2017.
It was Serena’s 62nd match of the fourth round in a Grand Slam tournament, while Sabalenka was playing her second match in this round. There was a tough fight between the two, but in the end Serena’s experience came in handy. In the quarter-finals, she will take on the winner of the match between Simona Halep or Inga Switake. Earlier, three-time Grand Slam winner and third seed Naomi Osaka bounced back to save two match points and beat Garbine Muguruza 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. He made a great comeback by winning the last four games.

At the Australian Open, 2019 champion Osaka trailed 15–40 in the final set at a score of 5–3. Muguruza had two match points this way but could not take advantage of them. Osaka will now meet 35-year-old Si Su Wei of Taiwan. Unseeded Su Wei defeated the 2019 French Open finalist Marketa Vandrosova 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. She has also become the oldest female player to reach her first Grand Slam quarter-final in the Open era.
Meanwhile in the men’s category, Russian qualifier Aslan Karatsev defeated 20th seed Felix Agur Alisamy 3-6 1-6 6-3 6-3 6-4 to enter the quarterfinals. This was the first time since 1996 in men’s singles when a player made the final eight while making a debut at Grand Slam. Earlier Alex Radulescu showed this charisma in 1996 at Wimbledon.
