Army recruitment scam: CBI registers case on many officers including 5 lieutenant colonels

New Delhi. The CBI has registered a case against five Lieutenant Colonel rank officers, 12 other personnel and six civilians for alleged corruption in the recruitment of officers through the Services Selection Board Centers. The detainees said on Monday that in connection with the case, searches have been carried out at 30 places in 13 cities, including the base hospital in Delhi’s cantonment. He said that the search operation was conducted in Kapurthala, Bathinda, Delhi, Kaithal, Palwal, Lucknow, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Visakhapatnam, Jaipur, Guwahati, Jorhat and Chirang.

He said that Lieutenant Colonel MCSNA of Army Air Defense Corps is the alleged mastermind of Bhagwan recruitment gang and a case has also been registered against him. CBI spokesperson RC Joshi said, “During the search, several crime-related documents related to the recruitment process have been recovered which are being investigated for further investigation.”

The CBI has taken action on the complaint of Brigadier (Vigilance) VK Purohit. It was alleged in the complaint that on 28 February 2021, it was reported that the serving personnel were allegedly involved in taking bribe to pass the medical examination to review the candidates temporarily rejected at the base hospital in New Delhi. Officials said the complaint stated that Lieutenant Colonel Bhagwan is currently on study leave and Naib Subedar Kuldeep Singh is allegedly involved in demanding bribe from potential officer candidates at SSB centers.

Case on many army officers and employeesHe said that the agency has registered a case against 17 civilians, including 17 personnel of the army, relatives of officers. This case has been registered on charges of seeking bribe and getting bribe. The agency said that Lt Col Surendra Singh of 31 SSB Center North, Lt Col YS Chauhan of 6 Mountain Division Ordnance Unit, Lt Col Sukhdev Arora of Directorate General of Recruitment, Lt Col Vinay, GTO, Selection Center South, Bengaluru and Major Bhavesh Kumar reportedly Formally helped in the selection of candidates.

He said that it is alleged that a bribe of several lakh rupees was given to the officers and their relatives. Lieutenant Colonel Surendra Singh and Major Bhavesh Kumar received undisclosed amount of bribe from 10-15 candidates through their relatives. Officials said that the agency has named Major Bhavesh Kumar’s wife Devyani, her father Surendra Kumar and mother Usha Kumawat as accused in the FIR for taking money.
