The Supreme Court on Friday protected Amazon India chief Aparna Purohit, who is facing a police case in the web series ‘Tandava’, and said that Purohit should not be arrested. The SC also commented on the Centre’s guidelines brought for OTT platforms during the hearing. The court said that the new rules of the Center brought for social media, digital media and OTT platforms do not have enough power and it does not even provide the power of procedure.
Aparna Purohit had filed an anticipatory bail plea in Allahabad Hoicourt, which was rejected by the court on February 25, after which she came to the Supreme Court. A hearing was also held on this matter on Thursday.
The court said during the hearing today that ‘there is no mechanism to control social media. Without any law, you (the government) cannot control it. The court said in the hearing yesterday that screening of such platforms is needed as most of the platforms sometimes show pornographic content.

Aparna recorded her statement in Hazratganj Kotwali, Lucknow. He then filed a petition for anticipatory bail in the High Court.
