60 new covid cases found in New Zealand

digital desk, Wellington. On Thursday, 60 new cases of Kovid-19 were registered in New Zealand. Now the total number of Kovid infected in the country has increased to 13,687.

According to the health ministry, of the Omicron variant, 20 cases have been reported in Auckland, 28 in Waikato, one in Northland, eight in the Bay of Plenty, one each in Tairavity, Canterbury and Lake.

A total of 44 cases are being treated in hospitals, Xinhua news agency quoted the ministry as saying. The death toll stood at 51.

So far, 95 percent of eligible people in New Zealand have taken the first dose and 91 percent have been fully vaccinated against COVID. The government announced new measures last week in view of the fast-spreading Omicron variant.

Among the measures, the period between the second and booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine has been reduced from six months to four months. Children between the ages of 5 and 11 will be registered to vaccinate from January 17.
